Deposit from Ledger

Learn about the ways to deposit from your hardware wallet.
It is a wise move to use a hardware wallet to protect your funds, so naturally, StakeWise protocol supports connection with Ledger. There are 2 options available:
  • Import Ledger address into the MetaMask extension and connect with MetaMask ("MetaMask" option in the Connect Wallet list)
  • Connect with Ledger directly ("Ledger" option in the Connect Wallet list)
Read on to learn about the advantages of each approach and the steps to take to connect to StakeWise.

Import Ledger address into MetaMask and connect via the extension

In our opinion, this approach is more convenient because it does not sacrifice the security of funds stored on the hardware wallet, yet offers a simpler connection process and a more accurate estimate of gas cost.
Before you proceed, make sure your Ledger firmware is updated to the latest version.
To connect Ledger to MetaMask:
  1. 1.
Download and install MetaMask extension from the official website
  2. 2.
Open the extension and complete the initial set-up procedure
  3. 3.
Connect Ledger to your PC via USB cable
  4. 4.
Head to the Ethereum App on your Ledger
  5. 5.
Browse to Settings and navigate to Contract Data
  6. 6.
Make sure Contract Data is set to Allowed
  7. 7.
In MetaMask, click on the avatar in the top-right corner and choose Connect Hardware Wallet
  8. 8.
Choose Ledger between the two options and press Connect
  9. 9.

To connect Ledger to StakeWise via the MetaMask extension:
  1. 1.
Choose MetaMask by pressing on Connect Wallet button
  2. 2.
Choose your Ledger address and press Connect
That's it! Any deposit you make will come from the Ledger address and your sETH2 and rETH2 tokens will also be stored there.

Connect with Ledger directly

In contrast to the "Import Ledger" option, this approach does not require any intermediate steps to deposit ETH on StakeWise but occasionally may result in a higher gas cost estimate than normal.
Before you proceed, make sure your Ledger firmware is updated to the latest version.
To connect with Ledger directly:
  1. 1.
Connect Ledger to your PC via USB cable
  2. 2.
Head to the Ethereum App on your Ledger
  3. 3.
Browse to Settings and navigate to Contract Data
  4. 4.
Make sure Contract Data is set to Allowed
  5. 5.
Head to the StakeWise DApp and press on Connect Wallet button
  6. 6.
Choose Ledger from the dropdown menu
That's it! Any deposit you make will come from the Ledger address and your sETH2 and rETH2 tokens will also be stored there.
